Discover the royal legacy of Nice's most prestigious neighbourhood

Before the Riviera golden age of Chanel and the Fitzgerald, the Côte d’Azur was considered a winter resort, popularized by the European Aristocracy and those looking to escape the cold winters of Northern Europe and reap the health benefits of the warmer climate.

It was the patronage of European Royalty to the Riviera which really drew the crowds to the Côte d’Azur and none was more influential to the city of Nice than British Monarch Queen Victoria. The repeated vacations by the Queen and her wider family left their mark on the city.

One area of the city more than any other can trace a connection to the British Royal family, Cimiez, which is now graced by a statue of the monarch below the ever popular Regina Residence, the once hotel now apartment residence that was built to accommodate the Queen, her entourage and the wealthy winter holiday makers who followed.

In addition to multiple titles and recognitions, local authorities honoured the Monarchs presence, generosity, interest and respect for Nicoise traditions by naming an avenue in her beloved Cimiez after her, Avenue Reine Victoria. A tradition that continued further with the naming of the Boulevard Edouard VII, the Boulevard Prince de Galles, and Avenue George V to name a few and that tradition remains to this day.

On October 14th 2022, the city of Nice announced a graceful dedication in the name of the late Queen Elizabeth II by officially voting into act the naming of a street in the Cimiez district in her memory, with the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, proposing that a street bear the name of the late monarch in Cimiez, “a historic district where its history has been marked by the presence of the Royal Family.”

In light of such a distinguished gesture we have collated a selection of apartments within the beautiful Cimiez district to emphasize the beauty and charm that still attracts visitors today.
